Why is there a Miyazaki film based on Lupin III? the show is really pretty silly, and I doubt the manga is much better. Isn't it strange to get the miyazaki treatment? but then thinking about it, they made a hollywood movie about inspector gadget, and watching that again I realized that it is a compleatly stupid show.
oh well. it's stuff like this that reminds me how similar japan and the US are...

I'm going to do a magic trick.

First, watch an episode of Inspector Gadget. Don't tell me anything about it.

Now, I will predict what happened:

Inspector Gadget got a message from the Chief, who was in a ridiculous disguise that utterly fooled Gadget. Gadget read the message, then threw it away, blowing up the Chief. He went to investigate the lead and got into a dust-up with some suspects, who narrowly escaped. However, Inspector Gadget managed to capture his dog, Brain, who was assisting him incognito. Brain escaped before being identified. As the final showdown went into motion, Penny saved the day by using her laptop computer to take control of a piece of machinery - possibly a non-electronic item like a sailboat - without Gadget knowing about it. He got all the credit and looked like a hero. Then, Dr. Claw slammed his fist on the table and said, "Next time, Gadget. Next time."

Isn't it cool? I'm totally psychic, like I've got ESPN or something.

I saw that movie. While it's about as deep as a James Bond film, it is really well-done and very entertaining. I have yet to see the show tho. And I think at that time Miyazaki hadn't quite achieved the stature he has today, so it wasn't too weird for him to take on a project like that. I really want to see some of his earlier tv work, as supposedly he worked on a bunch of japanese tv shows before doing features. I also want to see valley of the wind and understand what's going on, as I watched it completely in Japanese without subtitles because my housemates had a copy of it.
